Super Bowl Cupcake Dessert Party Ideas

I made some super simple chocolate cupcakes for the Super Simple Super Bowl Party I’m hosting this year.  I just made some chocolate cupcakes and frosted them (go boxed cake and canned frosting!), and then I piped white X’s and O’s onto each one using a piping bag with a #12 tip.  The cupcakes came out so cute!

To display them, I bought a sheet of green craft foam (for a football field, of course!) and arranged them in “offense” and “defense” formations.  (Or at least that’s what I thought I was doing…) Guests just grabbed a dessert or two throughout the game.  It worked out great!  Take a look at some of my other Super Bowl themed dessert ideas below, and don’t forget to check out my other Super Bowl XLIX Party Ideas, too!

More Super Bowl Party Desserts…

1. Football Cookies: Make chocolate fudge cookies and pipe football laces onto each one using white royal icing and a piping bag with a #3 tip.  Yum!
2. Super Bowl Cupcake Cake: Make a cupcake football cake!  Arrange cupcakes in the shape of a football. (Make sure the cupcakes are tight and close together.) Then, using a piping bag to cover the cupcakes and then spread chocolate icing with a knife so it becomes one “cake”.  Pipe white frosting for football laces, add any sprinkles or candies you like, and you’re done!  This easy cake doesn’t require any cutting at all.  Guests just grab a cupcake and enjoy!
3. Football Brownies: Bake a batch of brownies in a 9x13 pan, and use a football shaped cookie cutter to make brownie footballs!  Cover with chocolate icing and pipe white laces onto each one for a delicious treat.
4. Super Bowl Candy Bars: You can’t go wrong with no hassle Super Bowl Candy Bars and Wrappers!  Leave a custom message for your guests on the wrappers.  These treats also work great as favors as family and friends head home!
5. For the Kids: Make sure to give your youngest guests a Super Bowl dessert, too.  Fill these custom Super Bowl Mint and Candy Tins with M&Ms or surprise them with a personalized Super Bowl Lollipops!

Easy Super Bowl Football Cake Party Dessert

If you’re hoping to host a Super Simple Super Bowl Party, than you need to have a few desserts that are easy to make but also fit your theme!  With only one box of cake mix and a can of white and chocolate icing, I made this fun football shaped chocolate cake for my Super Bowl party. 

It took me less than half an hour to make (not including baking time), and it was a huge hit with my guests.  Make sure to follow my no hassle directions below to make your own, and don’t forget to take a look at some of my other Super Bowl XLIX Party Ideas, too!

First, make a batch of boxed chocolate cake in a 9” round pan according to the directions.  Allow the cake to cool and remove from the pan.  On a cutting board, cut out the middle inch of the cake and discard.  (By discard, I mean give to your husband, children, or other family members to fight over!)

Push the two end pieces together to make a “football shape”. Transfer the cake over to a cake plate or stand.

Frost your cake with chocolate icing using a frosting spatula. (I just used my favorite canned icing.)  Then, fill a piping bag fitted with a #12 tip with white frosting, and pipe laces onto the top of the cake.  Clean the cake plate with a wet paper towel if there is any stray icing.  Serve and enjoy!

Super Bowl Decoration Ideas: Free Football Garland

I love decorating each year for my family’s Super Simple Super Bowl Party!  Last year, I made an easy football field table runner, and this year, I designed a Free Super Bowl Link Chain PDF that I’m sharing with you! I plan on hanging this double-sided link chain in doorways and along my mantle.  It will look great with all my other super bowl XLIX party ideas!

To make this link chain yourself, all you need is computer paper, a color printer, scissors, and some glue.  Print out my Free Super Bowl Link Chain PDF (make sure to print double-sided!) and start building your chain. If you have kids or are inviting children to your Super Bowl Party, this is a great way to get them involved.  This easy craft will keep them occupied before and during the long game!  Check out some more of my great Super Bowl decorating ideas below, too.

• Pass out water with personalized Super Bowl water bottle labels. Base your color scheme off of the design you choose and leave a custom message to your guests on the label!

Winter Olympic Ring Sugar Cookies or Favors

This year I’m attending a Winter Olympics Party, and I’ve decided to bring some themed sugar cookies in honor of the event.  Stacked on a large tray, these Olympic Ring cookies will certainly draw the eye and would be the perfect standout on a dessert table!  Plus, if you’re hosting a Winter Olympics party, this easy-to-make dessert would work great as a favor.  All you have to do is slip a cookie into individual cellophane bags!  Follow my simple recipe below to make your own Olympic Ring cookies, and take a look at our other Winter Olympics Invitations and Party Favors for more hints on how to customize your get-together!

Materials (makes about 2 dozen cookies)

• 1 batch Mrs. Fields Sugar Cookie dough (courtesy of allrecipes.com) 
• Rolling pin
• Extra flour
• 1 large circle cookie cutter
• 1 small circle cookie cutter
• 3 cups powdered sugar
• 6-7 tbsp water
• Red, blue, yellow, green and black food coloring
• Cooling rack

Directions

1. Make one batch of Mrs. Fields Sugar Cookie dough according to the directions (click on link for recipe), and preheat the oven to 325°F.
2. After cooling the dough for several hours, spread flour on your rolling surface and roll the dough to ¼” thickness.
3. Then, use the large and small cookie cutters to make rings.  Place the cookies on an ungreased sheet, and bake for 13-15 minutes.  Immediately remove the cookies from the tray to cool. 
4. While the cookies are cooling, make the colored icing.  Mix the powdered sugar and water, and divide the icing among five separate small bowls.  Add a different food coloring to each bowl until they are your desired color.
5. Using a large spoon, spread the icing on the tops and sides of the cooking, allowing the icing to harden for 1-2 hours. 
6. Display your cookies on a white tray, or slip them into individual cellophane bags for a quick and easy favor.

2014 Winter Olympics Laurel Wreath Party Hats

As the 2014 Winter Olympics quickly approaches, I’ve started to plan how I want to celebrate this “once every four years” event.  While I won’t be making the trip to Sochi, I do plan on watching the opening ceremonies and events with my family and friends from the warmth of my cozy couch.  If you’re hosting a Winter Olympics party like I am, there are dozens of ways to make your event special.

Apart from decorating my home with Olympics inspired gear, I’m also planning on decorating my guests!  I’ve created an Olympics laurel wreath party crown for each one to put on as they walk in the door. Laurel wreath crowns were worn by ancient Greek victors and are still given to modern Olympic athletes today, so they make a great addition to any Olympics themed party.  After following my how-to on how to make your one Olympics party hats, make sure to take a look at our Olympics Party Invitations and Favors to complete your party planning! 

Materials

• Green fabric
• 2 stems fake floral leaves
• Straight pins
• Sewing machine and thread
• Measuring tape

Directions

1. To determine the size of the hat band, measure the wearer’s head with a measuring tape or guess the approximate size.
2. Next, cut out a strip of green cloth 3 inches wide with the length that was measured (I used leftover green felt from a previous project).
3. Fold the fabric in half, and sew down the length of the band.  Then, turn the band right side out, and then sew the two ends together to make a complete circle.
4. Cut individual leaves off the floral stem, and arrange them around the headband, securing with straight pins as you go.
5. Using a sewing machine, sew around the headband, attaching the leaves securely.  Remove any excess strings.

What to Expect at a Football Tailgate

“I don’t know what to expect at a tailgate.” These were the words spoken at the tailgate I attended prior to the Browns game.  I’ve been going to tailgates for football games for as long as I can remember, so the sounds and sights are second nature to me now. If you haven't been to a tailgate, here are a few things you can expect to see.

 

Multiple Groups of Friends. Everyone arrives early and sets up their camps, and are they impressive! You’ll see grills, alcoholic beverages, chairs and of course food. You will be surprised by the quality of food on display. You can see a range from sandwiches to a fried turkey!

Football Games. Not everybody is comfortable just sitting in a circle. Be prepared for  footballs bouncing all over the place. You’re going to see the professionals at the game and not at the tailgate. Heads up.

 

Generators.  You think generators are only for when you lose power? Then you have not been to a tailgate. There are generators all over the place, because some people want to watch TV and tailgate at the same time. More power to you.

 

Everyone with an internal clock leaving at the same time for the game. This is great and always gets me fired up for the games. Now this is a Browns game so we all yell, “Here we go Brownies” and then we bark. Is it silly? Absolutely. Does it get you ready for the Browns game? Absolutely. I would imagine there are specific cheers for specific teams and that they are easily learned. Just follow the crowd.

 

Edited jerseys. This is my favorite. The turnover in the NFL is pretty high, so the likelihood your jersey is relevant after two years is not good. What do you do? Get out the duct tape and magic marker. Not only are you creative but you’re staying current.

These are just a few of the things you’ll see while at a tailgate extravaganza. I personally all of these things make for a great experience.
