This year Super Bowl XLVII is at the Superdome in New Orleans. Since is is nice to do something different, we are giving our annual Super Bowl party a Mardi Gras theme this year.
Here are some of the ideas that I will be personally using at our party. Check out the Mardi Gras Super Bowl Ideas on Party411.com for more!
1. The most important thing at a Super Bowl party... the MENU! The name of the game for me is easy. I want to be able to enjoy the game and party. Fortunately several of us team up on the party food. Here is the plan for our New Orleans theme feast:
Muffuletta - I loved these sandwiches when we visited New Orleans last year, and they are perfect for a Super Bowl party. I'll make them in the morning and cut them right before game time. I am using this recipe on allrecipes.com
Gumbo or Jambalaya - We will do one or the other (I have it out to a vote right now) Both are an easy one pot meal. Either this jambalaya (without the shrimp, allergies) or this gumbo.
Cajun Dip. With veggies, made with Tony Chacheres Original Creole Seasoning, from their website.
Our Favorites - Even though the theme is Mardi Gras, it wouldn't be Super Bowl without our favorite football foods:
- Buffalo Chicken Dip
- Pig in a Blanket
- Bacon Wrapped Cheese Jalapenos
Dessert - We are doing Mardi Gras Cupcakes and King Cake!
2. Decorations and very important, especially if you are doing a theme like Mardi Gras. I need to keep it simple, since the party is at my cousin's home. I will already be bringing over food and our dog, so I can't cart too much else.
Beads - #1 for a Mardi Gras party. I am going to wait to see what the team are, and order in team colors. Masks are big too, but my group won't wear them.
Super Bowl Party Supplies - Plates and the plastic cups for sure. I have a football field tablecover from last year.
Crepe paper - eays and inexpensive. Yellow, Green and Purple!
I also have some great stuff I can reuse from last year - football confetti, and a ref serving tray.
3. Activities - The main activity is watching the game and the comeercials (of course). But we also like to bet on the game. Here is a pic of our big winner from the 2012 game with our Super Bowl Betting Board (courtesy of Party411!) We're going to do it again this year.

This sounds like a cool super bowl party idea! I think I am going to do one that matches the team. Do you have any ideas about doing a fan based party? http://www.legendarysports.com/super-bowl
