We have an amazing artist named Larry who draws all of custom caricatures. People purchase them for invitations, life sized cutouts, sign in boards and more. They are also a big seller for Christmas cards!
This year I had a custom caricature Christmas card drawn featuring myself, my husband, our two cats and our dog. I thought I would take you on a behind the scenes look at the creation of my caricature!
First I talked with our caricature expert Nanette. You would do this over the phone and through email, but luckily for me she was only a few offices down. I gathered pictures of everyone who was going to be in the picture, and she helped me decide the best pictures to use.
Then we talked about the elements of the card. I said I wanted us all standing together, except for one cat who should be sitting in a window. I was hoping for a fireplace with our stockings on it, but I definately wanted a Chrismas tree in there somewhere. We picked out the outfits my husband and I would wear (sweaters, jeans and tennis shoes) and decided that Basil our dog should have a Santa hat, our cat Owl should have antlers, and our other cat Pinky Pye (who is a trouble maker) should have a halo.
Nanette tooks notes on everything, gathered up my pictures, and went over to Larry to give him my "vision". Larry got to work and soon I had a sketched proof that was way better then I could have hoped!
This is the stage where I can make changes, and I only had a few (Pinky's name is spelled PYE and not PIE). Then the coloring began. No turning back!
