Ho hum. It's dreary, cold and wet outside. My holiday shopping is done, and there are still 20 shopping days left. The snow is coming down, yet there's not enough so we can sled or ski. And, um, let's see, I don't sled, I don't ski. Besides my one favorite TV show, soon-to-be-(sob)-cancelled Boston Legal, TV is mostly reality shows, and I face my own reality every day. Bottom line is-I'm bored.
So I guess I'll BAKE!!!
After all, it's the holidays. I can make cookies shaped like snowmen, cookies shaped like dreidels, cookies shaped like wreaths, cookies shaped like gingerbread men and then I can adorn them with gum drops and dots and sprinkles and sugar glitter and licorice, and this year I can even adorn them with M&M's with my picture!!! Wowee. Then I can pack them up in cute little tins and give them as hostess gifts everywhere I go. I'm feeling so warm and fuzzy.
So I did some research, Better Homes and Gardens has a gabillion recipes starting with almond-apricot window cookies and bittersweet chocolate and peppermint sandwiches. While All Recipes has almond-apricot rugalach but nothing peppermint (probably 'cause peppermint and Chanukah don't really go together), they do have a 5-star Mandel Bread. In honor of Kwanzaa, Disney Family Fun suggests Zimbabwe sweet-potato cookies that sound delicious.
On the other hand, I just stopped at Pillsbury.com and guess what? I can use their refrigerated cookie dough to make snowmen and reindeer and probably anything else I want without even dirtying a bowl or wasting my valuable time.
So much for needing something to do!
