I am never eating again.
This weekend I went to my first cookie exchange! What fun. My friend Jill invited about 15 women to her house and asked everyone to bring 5 dozen+ cookies. The only rules were that they could not be a basic chocolate chip cookie.
It was a really fun, simple and FILLING party. She had mugs out in the kitchen and offered coffee, tea and hot cider. In the dining room the table was covered with empty platters that we all filled in with our cookies as we arrived. We enjoyed our cookies and hot drinks at the party and when it was time to go everyone filled a Tupperware container with cookies to bring home.
Needless to say, I filled up at the party and then helped myself again at home. I’m still full. If your interested in hosting your own cookie theme party, check out the Christmas Cookie Exchange or A Kids Cookie Christmas Party for lots of tips and ideas!
Here is a recipe for the cookies I made. They were great… if I do say so myself!
1/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 oz. (3 squares) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 t vanilla
3 eggs
2 cups flour
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
Nonpareils topped chocolate wafers
Powdered sugar
- In large bowl, combine, margarine, sugar, chocolate and vanilla. Blend well.
- Beat in eggs.
- Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt.
- Chill dough 30 minutes
- Heat oven to 350.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in powdered sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are set.
- Remove from oven; immediately press chocolate wafer in center of each cookie.
- Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on rack.
Kisses or chocolate stars may be used instead of nonpareils.
Makes 54 cookies.
Have fun filling up!
