In like a lion, out like a lamb…and only one holiday besides Buzzard Day (March 18, 2007) to celebrate—what’s a person to do??!!
I know you don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day but you probably have to live in or near Hinckley to celebrate the buzzards returning to this small Ohio ‘burb. So, if you want a party theme for March that excludes turkey vultures and small male fairies called leprechauns.
What would the Party Girl do? First off, I wouldn’t compete with St. Patrick’s Day so the weekend of the 16th and 17th is off-limits. But, after that, I’m game.
March is International Mirth Month (maybe it’s time for a “joke” party!). It’s also Learn Russian Month (hmmm…maybe I’ll do a screening of From Russia with Love, and pass out buttered popcorn and nachos). Perhaps I’ll gather all my friends at Starbucks because it’s National Caffeine Awareness Month or, then again, since March is National Frozen Food Month, I’ll break out the frozen peas and carrots, a large pizza and a couple gallons of ice cream and have my worst enemies over to break bread.
Well, truth is, none of those appeal to me. But here are a few things that do and that I would definitely celebrate come the weekends at the end of March (with the exception of a basketball party to celebrate the NCAA March Madness):
Date: Theme:
Friday, March 23rd “Beat the Clock” TV Premiere, 57th Anniversary
National Puppy Day
Schmeckfest (German Festival of Tasting)
Saturday, March 24th Houdini’s 133rd Birthday (Wow, a Magic Party!)
12th Annual Yo-Yo Convention at the Spinning Top Museum
Sunday, March 25th Howard Cosell’s 99th Birthday (any sports theme will do…)
Pecan Day (I can already taste the pie!)
Elton John’s, Aretha Franklin’s and Anita Bryant’s Birthdays
(is a “Name that Tune” party out of the question? Nope!)
Friday, March 30th “Jeopardy” TV Premiere, 43rd Anniversary
Doctor’s Day (great time to “play doctor,” no?)
Saturday, March 31st 118th Anniversary of the Eiffel Tower (ooh la oui!)
Dalai Lama Flees Tibet Anniversary, 1959
Al Gore’s 59th Birthday (59 is truly an “inconvenient truth”)
Sunday, April 1st April Fool’s Day (first celebrated in 1564…it’s time you did, too)
Debbie Reynolds’ 75th Birthday
If these party ideas don’t spark some creativity, what will? Check out Party411.com for advice, write the Party Girl or just punt. You’ll have a good time with these themes no matter what.
Your friends will appreciate that you are MARCH-ing to a different drummer this month!
