These walnuts are soooo good, and fairly quick to make up. I usually double this recipe, they go so fast!
Candied Walnuts
1 pound walnut halves
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spread nuts in a single layer over a baking sheet. Roast in oven for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until the nuts start to turn brown (and make the kitchen smells wonderful!)
- While the nuts are roasting, stir together the sugar, cinnamon, salt, and milk in a saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat for 8 minutes, or until the mixture reaches 236 degrees F (I use a meat thermomeater to check). Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla extract right away.
- Add walnuts to sugar syrup in the saucepan and stir to coat. Spoon nuts onto waxed paper, and separate nuts with a fork qickly before they start to stick together. Cool and store in airtight containers.
Enjoy!
