Planning an Election Night Party

Election Night Party

My husband and I are debating whether or not we should have an Election Night party this year. We are having a Halloween party, and he does not think I will be able to pull off another shindig a mere 4 days later. (silly man, do not doubt my party planning skills) I think I will be fine because I don’t plan on inviting too many people.

Here is my plan:

I am going to start this party 9pm, when the polls are closing. That way there is not a lot of needless sitting around, and we can skip the endless “pre-election show”. (Sorry CNN)

I think it would be fun to serve breakfast foods, since the party will inevitably run quite late. And it’s going to be buffet all the way. I will make a couple of breakfast casseroles that I can pop in the oven, and set out a selection of bagels and breads from our local bakery. Sliced fruit (maybe on skewers) would be nice, and I will do Belgian waffles with a toppings bar for dessert. For drinks I will serve Mimosas (three parts champagne/sparkling wine and two parts orange juice).

I will probably keep my decorations simple. The buffet will get covered in my white tablecloth, and I will sprinkle patriotic confetti all over the table for color and sparkle. I’ll set out these awesome Democratic and Republican paper goods. Red, white and blue balloons in bouquets around the room will be more than enough decoration in my tiny living room. I have some 4th of July decorations (flags and such) I can reuse as well.

We’ll set up our large dry erase board in the living room to keep track of the results that are coming in. Maybe I will come up with some fun candidate trivia, and I can hand out some of the fun patriotic party items we carry. That will get us through the slow bits.

So that’s my grand Election Night party plan. I would love to hear what you are planning to do. If you are also planning an Election Night party, leave a comment with an idea or two. Everyone (including me!) will appreciate you sharing.

Feel free to use my plan or take a look at our “You Decide 2008” party theme has plenty of great suggestions for election decorations and party supplies! <-- shameless plug, since I made quite a few of the suggestions there too! :)
